About us

Canevas LaSalle Inc. was established in 1962, like many companies of the time, in the owner’s garage. This garage was located in the borough of LaSalle, on the island of Montreal, which explains the origin of the company’s name. The business began as a repair shop for tarpaulins, tents and various canvas and rope products. From there, the business evolved beyond simple repair to manufacturing products in the fields of industrial textiles, rope, nets and webbing, supplying industrial, safety and leisure markets.

In the late ’60s, Canevas LaSalle moved to its present location on Elmslie Street in LaSalle, where we have remained ever since, including several expansions. As our product ranges continued to evolve, we became a supplier to many customers manufacturing similar products for their end customers. This has led to our current production model as a contract manufacturer for leisure markets, while continuing to serve some traditional industrial markets.

As we increasingly became a supplier to other manufacturers in our industry, we also began to source additional fabrics and accessories for these customers, to help meet their manufacturing needs. This led to the addition of a distribution arm to our business, which has evolved into the company’s primary focus as it stands today.

This rather unexpected evolution, from manufacturer to distributor with contract manufacturing capabilities, has given us a unique position. We are not only a supplier of products, but also a competent consultant and partner in the realization of many of our customers’ projects. Thanks to our manufacturing experience, we not only have a vast inventory of the highest quality products available in our sector, but we are also extremely knowledgeable about the strengths and weaknesses of each product and the applications for which they are best suited. We offer only the highest quality versions of the products we carry, because we know the difference in results depending on their use. This also means working only with suppliers who have the integrity to stand behind their products and support us in our commitment to quality and customer satisfaction.

Canevas Lasalle remains a family business. Family members from the 2nd and 3rd generations are currently working as part of the team, continuing to apply the philosophy that has been at the heart of our company from the very beginning. This is to ensure that our customers always feel that we have their best interests at heart, and that we will do everything in our power to help them achieve their goals. We take a long-term approach to our business, choosing to view our suppliers and customers as partners in our enterprise, and treating every transaction as a building block in strengthening our relationships with these partners.
